Erfurt/Dresden/Mannheim, 21 January 2026 The joint trial demonstrated the entire communication chain within the test PKI – from the GWA system (Robotron) to PPC’s SMGWplus, on to Mennekes wall boxes and finally to the subsequent implementation of the control signals in the connected electric vehicles. What is special about the test track is that not just one but four wallboxes were connected to an SMGWplus, each of which received individual control signals from the GWA via the SMGWplus.

The project partners thus impressively demonstrate that control via the SMGWplus is scalable and can advance the control rollout. The test was carried out as part of the BMWE-funded SISSY research project, which is investigating the SMGW as a safety anchor for control measures in the grid within the framework of the project.

The control commands are transmitted from the GWA to the SMGWplus via COSEM-XML in accordance with VDE specifications. The control signal is then forwarded from the SMGWplus to the wallboxes via EEBUS. The solution thus meets all interoperability requirements and will find widespread application in the rollout of control solutions in the future. With the successful interaction of both communication channels, PPC, together with its project partners TMZ and Robotron, confirms the SMGWplus approach as a modern and efficient control and charging solution.

In the next step, the project partners will put the SMGWplus into the field and thus prove its practical suitability.
