Submetering
The smart meter gateway serves as a secure data hub within the building and enables the automated reading of meter data across all utility sectors. The integration of submetering was one of the first applications implemented on the CLS interface. The data collected from the submeters leaves the building securely encrypted via the SMGW and is transmitted only to authorized external market participants and their backend systems. The submeter data can thus be made available to billing service providers, property managers, or end customers for digital billing, self-billing, consumption information, or other services. Tenants also benefit from visualizations and transparency regarding their consumption.
A Solution That Complies with the Law
In addition to providing greater convenience for tenants, the solution also ensures that the infrastructure is future-proof—because the submetering solution via the SMGW meets the functional and safety requirements of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the Building Energy Act (GEG).
The Metering Point Operations Act (MsbG) also designates the SMGW as the communication hub in buildings. Section 6 of the MsbG specifically promotes the consolidation of various consumption categories via the SMGW, including submetering.
