SMGWplus – Easily Update Controllability

Our SMGW 2 is ready for the transition from a measurement rollout to a control rollout: With a simple software update, it becomes the SMGWplus and enables direct control from the SMGW.

When used in combination with our EEBUS Relay Converter, it is possible to make analog systems controllable in accordance with Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and Section 9 of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG)

    SMGWplus

    One Solution—Many Benefits

    Provision of Evidence

Every control signal received by the SMGWplus is logged in a log file, as is the acknowledgment (ACK/NACK) from the EMS or the controllable system. The GWA can read this log file at any time and thus verify whether a signal has arrived at the property and been processed.

By standardizing the interface between SMGWplus and GWA in accordance with DIN VDE V 0418-63-8, not only do all GWA system providers have the ability to communicate with SMGWplus via their backend systems, but in the future, additional SMGWs can also be integrated for control via the same interface. This ensures interoperability between systems and devices.

Communication between SMGWplus and EMS or a controllable system takes place via the EEBUS protocol. This protocol is already in use throughout Europe for communication between energy-related devices. By using an established protocol, systems that are already on the market today can be easily connected to the SMGW.

The MSB must ensure that control signals reach the property. When using the SMWGplus, no additional hardware is required beyond the SMGW. This reduces not only the hardware costs but also the installation costs for the MSB. Furthermore, in many cases, a second service call by a technician is no longer necessary, as the Plus features can be added via a software update.

Unlike other solutions, the SMGWplus processes measurement values and control signals using the same device. This makes it possible to cross-check the data. In particular, when a separate meter is used for the controllable systems, the SMGWplus can directly verify whether control signals are being implemented and, in the event of a deviation, send a warning to the MSB.

The SMGWplus is a software-only product, which means that SMGWs already installed can be upgraded with the Plus features via a software update. Second-generation SMGWs that are already installed in the field at the time of certification can easily receive the SMGWplus update via a GWA software update. After certification, you can order SMGWs as SMGWplus units or, alternatively, add the Plus features via a software update.
