Submetering and Smart Homes in Bad Blankenburg
The goal was the cross-divisional provision, processing, and validation of measurement data (submetering) for WBG, as well as the procurement and provision of smart devices for controlling various building systems in the smart home sector.
Region
Bad Blankenburg
Challenge
Implementation of submetering, as well as the procurement and deployment of smart devices for controlling various building systems in the smart home sector.
Solution
Using the CLS channel of the smart meter gateway for secure data transmission
Secure Provision of Measurement Data
In collaboration with TMZ and our partners Smarvis, Robotron, and GISA, we have implemented a solution for the cross-sector collection and delivery of measurement data via the highly secure smart meter gateway infrastructure.
In this process, the recorded electricity data is forwarded via the standardized LMN interface, and the submeter data is forwarded via the smart meter gateway’s integrated CLS interface to the metering point operator TMZ or billing service providers such as Smarvis.
Specifically, data from the smart metering systems, heat meters, and cold- and hot-water meters was collected for twelve residential units. The scope of the installation also included smoke detectors, which were connected via radio to central data nodes. The measurement data is provided monthly, broken down by billing units, and can thus be used directly for billing purposes.
Visualization in an Online Portal
An online portal has been set up for end customers that visually presents the meter readings for all service categories. This not only provides an accurate overview of utility costs but also allows for targeted cost optimization. In addition, the WBG’s online portal is available at any time for property-specific meter readings.
“With the amendment to the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, remotely readable metering technology will also become mandatory for submetering,” explains Jörn Lutze, managing director of TMZ.
That is why there is no alternative to wireless remote meter reading. Sharing the infrastructure of smart metering systems provides a secure platform for such value-added services.
“In addition to automated, cross-sector remote meter reading, the data can be integrated directly into the backend and billing systems. The administrative burden on property owners is minimized, as billing for all sectors is handled by a single provider,” says Lutz Berger, managing director of TMZ, summarizing the benefits.
