Hagen and Mannheim, January 28, 2025: With their newly implemented connection between the inverter and the CLS device, KOSTAL and PPC are offering a groundbreaking expansion of control options for residential and commercial photovoltaic systems.
With the latest software update (V. 3.04.01) for the KOSTAL PLENTICORE G3, in combination with the CLS adapter controller from Power Plus Communications AG, customers will thus be able to meet the requirements of §14a EnWG and §9 EEG in the future. With the implementation of the use cases “Power Limitation of Grid Consumption” (LPC) and “Power Limitation of Grid Feed-in” (LPP), this represents a significant optimization for the smart control of energy grids.
When used in conjunction with the KOSTAL Smart Energy Meter G2 (firmware version 2.5.0 or later) and the KOSTAL ENECTOR Wallbox, convenient functions for limiting power consumption from the grid (LPC) can now be implemented. These new features prepare KOSTAL users for the requirements of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG), which took effect on January 1, 2024, by meeting the criteria for digital power curtailment.
KOSTAL and PPC: Ready for Future Challenges
Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and Section 9 of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) set forth key requirements for the flexible control of electricity consumers and generators. Section 14a of the EnWG aims to ensure that controllable consumption devices—such as electric vehicles, heat pumps, and home storage systems—are operated in a manner that benefits the grid in order to prevent grid overloads.
Section 9 of the EEG requires operators of decentralized generation facilities, such as photovoltaic systems, to reduce the amount of power fed into the grid during grid overloads. KOSTAL’s new features fully comply with these legal requirements. These solutions enable system operators to flexibly control the flow of energy and respond to grid requests in real time, which is crucial for the stability of the power grid.
The PPC CLS Adapter Controller connects the utility to the customer’s system. By controlling the system via EEBUS, the customer’s system can be integrated in an interoperable and secure manner. In addition, the digital controller enables feedback to utilities and energy suppliers.
Implementing guidelines efficiently and in a user-friendly manner
With the integration of the PPC CLS Adapter Control and KOSTAL’s innovative inverters and wallboxes, customers are optimally prepared for future energy management requirements. These solutions make it possible to implement the necessary grid integration efficiently and user-friendly by offering flexible and automatic adjustment of energy flows.
“Thanks to these future-proof solutions, our customers can keep pace with the new regulations while maximizing the energy efficiency of their systems,” says Dennis Hollenbeck, Product Manager for Energy Management at KOSTAL. “The smart combination of PLENTICORE G3, the Smart Energy Meter G2, and our ENECTOR Wallbox ensures that our customers are prepared for technological and regulatory changes, even in the long term.”
“With this partnership and the interoperability demonstration, we are consistently driving forward the digital transformation of the energy transition. In doing so, we are enabling a smart and secure connection between customer systems, grid operators, and market participants,” says Julian Zilg, deputy team leader for CLS Products at PPC.
