Interoperability List: How PPC Paves the Way for Digital Control

To ensure a solid foundation for digital control, we had already adopted the EEBUS protocol during the initial development of our CLS Adapter Control 2.0, so that customers and users could benefit directly from this secure standard. As part of the ongoing development of the CLS Adapter Control 2.0, we have collaborated with partners and users from the energy, heating, and automotive sectors to seamlessly integrate the smart grid into our customers’ systems.

The EEBUS qualification (EEBUS Devices – Living Lab Cologne) of the CLS Adapter Control 2.0 was merely the starting point for interoperable scaling during the rollout, aimed at the effective implementation of Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). In addition to the successful qualification, PPC has published an initial interoperability list of EEBUS counterpart devices for the CLS Adapter Steuerung. In addition to the straightforward tests for verifying interoperability, it is particularly encouraging that EEBUS can not only be used for all new installations but is also being rolled out to all existing installations via a firmware update. This means that existing systems can also benefit from the iMSys rollout across the entire value chain; only through the efficient and digital integration of all components will a true smart grid emerge.

To ensure that system components can establish fast, direct lines of communication with one another, there must be a clear commitment to interoperability rather than silo thinking, along with proven interfaces and standard protocols designed for this purpose. The next step, therefore, is to obtain TR-5 certification for our CLS Adapter Control 2.0 and to continuously expand the interoperability list in order to enable an increasing number of systems to comply with Sections 14a and 9 of the EEG.
