Mannheim / Nürnberg, den 31.03.2025: N-ERGIE und Coms4Grid ziehen nach Monaten des ersten gemeinsamen Piloten eine positive Bilanz: Dank Breitband-Powerline-(BPL)-Modems findet der Rollout intelligenter Messsysteme seinen Weg nach Nürnberg und Hüttenheim, sowohl in urbane als auch ländliche Gebiete.

Hauptziel war und ist es eine hohe Umsetzungsquote zu erreichen, auch in herausfordernden Umgebungen mit eingeschränkter Funkabdeckung. Mit diesem Schritt zeigt die N-ERGIE, dass sie sich konsequent der Digitalisierung ihres Netzes widmet und ihr Stromnetz fit für die Smart-Grid-Zukunft macht. Im Rahmen des Projekts werden 300 PPC Smart-Meter-Gateways (SMGWs) inklusive der erforderlichen BPL-Modems in unterschiedlichsten Objekten, von Straßenverteilern bis zu Trafohäuschen, installiert. Unterteilt wurde dabei in zwei Pilotprojekte, die sich den dedizierten Anforderungen des städtischen Raums sowie ländlicher Umgebung widmeten. Dies ermöglichte nicht nur die Erhebung wichtiger Netzdaten aus dem Niederspannungsnetz, sondern verbessert auch die Rollout-Planung für zukünftige Ausbauziele.
Coms4Grid, eine hundertprozentige Tochter der PPC, unterstützt das Projekt mit ihrer umfassenden Expertise in der BPL-Technologie. In einem Vor-Ort-Workshop wurden die Monteure der N-ERGIE auf Installationsprozesse und technische Hürden vorbereitet. Neben der Bereitstellung von BPL-Technik und Anschlussmaterial sorgte PPC in der Zusammenarbeit für die Datenanbindung an den Gateway-Administrator (GWA), wodurch Installationsaufwände deutlich reduziert werden. Die korrekte Powerline-Installation wird durch Dienstleistungen der Coms4Grid sichergestellt, um maximale Effizienz und Zuverlässigkeit zu gewährleisten.

Wir als Coms4Grid liefern alles, was der skalierbare Rollout braucht und die N-ERGIE punktet als Netzbetreiber vor Ort mit dem eigenen Monteursnetzwerk und Kapazitäten.“
Mit diesem Projekt demonstriert die N-ERGIE ihre Entschlossenheit, die Herausforderungen sowohl urbaner als auch ländlicher Installationsumgebungen zu meistern. Die Erkenntnisse des Pilotprojekts, etwa zur Modem-Erreichbarkeit in Kellerräumen, werden genutzt, um den Rollout effizient weiterzuführen und die Digitalisierung des Stromnetzes nachhaltig voranzutreiben. Drei Hundert Smart-Meter-Gateways sind dabei erst der Anfang. Coms4Grid und die N-ERGIE sind nach dem erfolgreichen Piloten nun daran, das Projekt für 2025 und 2026 in noch größerem Maßstab umzusetzen.

Mannheim, 7 April 2025: The Nuremberg-based energy company N-ERGIE has come to a positive conclusion after months of the first joint pilot project with PPC and its service subsidiary, Coms4Grid. Thanks to PPCs Broadband Powerline (BPL) communication technology, the roll-out of smart meters in Nuremberg and Hüttenheim is taking place in both urban and rural areas.

N-ERGIE’s main goal is to achieve a high implementation rate, even in challenging environments with limited LTE coverage. With the joint pilot project, the energy company is demonstrating its consistent commitment to digitising its network and making its power grid fit for the Smart Grid future. As part of the project, PPC supplied 300 Smart Meter Gateways (SMGW), including the necessary BPL modems. The BPL products, powered by Nessum, were installed in a variety of objects, from street cabinets to substations. The roll-out project was divided into two pilot projects, one for urban areas and the other for rural areas. This not only enabled important network data to be collected from the low-voltage grid, but also improved rollout planning for future expansion targets. In both projects, PPC’s service subsidiary Coms4Grid operates the BPL network and supports N-ERGIE’s technical teams to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.
PPCs Broadband Powerline technology, powered by Nessum, is an ideal solution for a wide Smart Meter rollout because it ensures nearly 100% availability by using the existing electrical grid to transmit data, even in areas with poor wireless coverage. It provides secure, real-time, high-bandwidth communications to support Smart Grid management. Three hundred smart meter gateways are just the beginning. Following the successful pilot, Coms4Grid and N-ERGIE are now working to implement the project on an even larger scale in 2025 and 2026.
