AnyPLACE – Adaptable Platform for Active Services Exchange

The AnyPLACE (Adaptable Platform for Active Services Exchange) project intends to develop a modular smart metering platform. It is funded with EUR 2,5 Million and part of the European Horizon 2020 program.

The system aims to provide a bi-directional service exchange gateway that enhances the interaction between end users, market representatives, electricity network operators and ICT providers.

The proposed solution will allow performing energy remote metering (electricity, gas, heating and cooling), exploiting electricity networks in a more efficient manner and turning end users in active energy market players through their engagement in demand response programs.

The use of the AnyPLACE platform to actively manage and control electricity networks will also make it possible to address operational problems related with the variability of renewable based generation.

To enable the development of an effective modular and flexible platform, an analysis to the different regulatory frameworks, energy/telecommunications standards, potential scenarios of deployment, technical requirements of the solution and technologies currently available is being performed.

A modular and plug and play SW and HW platform is being developed in parallel with current and expected regulatory initiatives and standards. A cost-benefit analysis on different possible configurations will be developed, to ensure that appropriate configurations, or even retrofitted solutions, are designed for each context and their cost does not exceed a target cost of 100€.

A set of prototypes will be built with different combinations of modules to deal with different scenarios of application, which will be tested in a smart grid laboratory environment and in a field trial, providing a real-world assessment of their performance.

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.

AnyPlace project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 646580

Modular and interoperable system architecture

The AnyPLACE system architecture allows applications in the field of Smart Grid, Smart Building and Smart Home. The OpenHAB based energy management system enables monitoring, control, living APPs and consumption optimization.

Publications

AnyPLACE is communicated through publications in conferences and scientific and industry journals, via workshops targeted at scientific and industrial communities, and through special activities for end-users, utilities (gas, water, heat, electricity), retailers, appliances manufacturers and ICT providers.
