PPC, together with thirteen partners, is successfully testing the EEBUS Ship Pairing Service at this year’s EEBUS Summit. The process enables control system integration without the need for an additional on-site visit and is a key component of the scalable control rollout.
Mannheim/Cologne, October 6, 2026 – Power Plus Communications (PPC) continues to expand the interoperable partner ecosystem surrounding its SMGWplus. At the EEBUSummit & Plugfest 2026 in Cologne, PPC recognized thirteen partner companies whose systems successfully passed interoperability tests with the SMGWplus or the CLS Adapter Control. The focus was on the EEBUS SHIP Pairing Service and the reliable transmission of control commands. The EEBUS SHIP Pairing Service automatically and securely connects the SMGWplus or other control devices to controllable systems or their home energy management systems (HEMS).
With the growing number of decentralized energy systems and controllable consumption devices, there is an increasing need for standardized, vendor-neutral commissioning processes. These must enable simple and efficient commissioning for both the installer on the customer’s side and for metering point operators and distribution system operators. The metering point operator’s control devices must be reliably integrated with the customer’s consumption or generation equipment as well as their energy management systems. To this end, the VDE FNN has designated the SHIP Pairing Service as the target process.
How the EEBUS Ship Pairing Service Makes a Difference in the Tax Rollout
Without the EEBUS SHIP Pairing Service, this step often involves additional effort. The control device and the controlled system must be networked and securely authenticated. The local manual confirmation required for this may necessitate an additional on-site visit. The EEBUS SHIP Pairing Service automates this pairing process.
To this end, the installer records the EEBUS credentials for the controllable system during installation. These are transmitted via the designated registration process. If the metering point operator subsequently receives the order to enable controllability, the credentials can be imported into the control device. They contain a digital key, known as a “secret.” The control device uses this to automatically authenticate itself to the controllable system or the energy management system. Both systems can then pair with each other automatically, eliminating the need for additional manual interaction on-site.
Interoperability Demonstrated at EEBUS Summit with SMGWplus
PPC tested the process in collaboration with manufacturers of various energy management systems and equipment. Thirteen partner solutions successfully demonstrated interoperability with the SMGWplus and the CLS Adapter control system. In addition to secure EEBUS SHIP pairing, the transmission of control signals to these systems was also tested.
The EEBUS Ship Pairing Service was successfully tested with the following partners at the EEBUS Summit:
- Beeker Tech
- BOSCH Thermal Technology
- Consolinno Energy
- enjoyelec B.V.
- Enyo
- Fronius
- Hosenso
- KOSTAL Solar Electric
- MENNEKES Electrical Engineering
- Reduxi
- Symcon
- TQ Systems
- Vaillant
“When millions of controllable devices are integrated into the energy system, their commissioningmust not depend on manual, individual steps. With automated SHIP pairing, we are demonstrating—together with our partners—that this process can be standardized, simple, and work across different manufacturers. What matters is not just connecting the devices, but ensuring reliable control during operation,” says Janosch Wagner, CTO of PPC.
Julian Zilg, CLS Product Team Leader, adds: “Automated pairingis intended, in particular, to reduce the workload at the interface between the installer, the metering point operator, and the system operator. The fact that more than 12 partners have already joined us in conducting the interoperability tests and successfully completed them shows just how important the SHIP Pairing Service is for the controlled rollout.”
The interoperability tests are part of the PPC connect initiative. As part of this initiative, PPC works with manufacturers to test the interaction of various hardware and software components with its own smart meter and control technology. The companies honored at the EEBUSummit will receive the PPC connect Award for successfully demonstrating interoperability.
