The high cybersecurity requirements associated with the smart meter gateway rollout place special demands on reuse and the related processes, because: Once a smart meter gateway has been installed and commissioned, it collects personal data in the form of meter readings, user profiles, and log data. To protect personal data, it has therefore not been possible to reuse smart meter gateways after their initial installation and commissioning.
The “DoDeleteUserData” function, which PPC has now implemented, lays the groundwork for reuse and enables an SMGW that has already been put into operation to be reinstalled at a different location.
Greater Sustainability for the Rollout
The new feature was implemented as part of the TR-03109-1 V2 implementation.
With the certified “DoDeleteUserData” function, it will be possible in the future to delete personal data from the smart meter gateway when a user changes. Data required for metrological inspections, for example, is stored in the backend in accordance with the specified time limits.
Devices that are in working order remain in the inventory and can continue to be used. This offers significant advantages for metering point operators:
- More Efficient Operations and Rollout Processes
- More sustainable use of resources
Available with TR-03109-1 V2 certification
“DoDeleteUserData” provides a solution that combines data protection, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. The ability to safely reuse smart meter gateways reduces costs while supporting the sustainable rollout of SMGWs. The feature will be available upon completion of certification in accordance with TR-03109-1 V2.
