Successful Certifications of the New Production Facility Provide Capacity for Scaling Up the Smart Meter Rollout

Successful Certifications of the New Production Facility Provide Capacity for Scaling Up the Smart Meter Rollout

We are pleased that the certification process for our new production lines in Landau has been formally completed with the presentation of the certificate. This means that the new facility has been approved by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for the production of certified smart meter gateways (SMGW). With the capacity expansion at the new facility to over 1 million SMGWs per year, we are ensuring that our customers have access to the quantities they need as the rollout of smart metering systems scales up. The way is now clear for a smooth scaling up of your rollout in line with the ongoing rollout targets for 2024 and the coming years.

In addition, we were able to complete the recertification of our Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) firmware for both generations in December. Both SMGW 1 and SMGW 2 meet the latest requirements and offer numerous new features and improvements. One of the most significant innovations is the certification of the “1:n” multi-vendor approach. This enables the OMS Compact Profile to map TAF 7 (meter reading) with wireless meters from different manufacturers in compliance with metrology regulations. This enables the simultaneous reading of up to 50 meters with a single SMGW 2—a groundbreaking development for the efficiency and scalability of metering. In addition, we have further optimized grid observability with improvements to TAF-10. This ensures efficient monitoring of relevant parameters in the distribution grid while simultaneously reducing data volume. The collection of this data is crucial for reliable and transparent control of the energy supply grid.
