A Successful Debut—Light + Building 2024

Try Something New

After six days and our first appearance as an exhibitor with a new booth concept that caught people’s attention and was well-received, we can say: The Light + Building trade show in Frankfurt was a huge success!

With over 2,100 exhibitors and more than 150,000 visitors, the sheer scale of the event was palpable throughout the exhibition halls—which covered a wide range of topics—over the course of the entire event. At this landmark trade show covering all topics related to building and lighting technology, we wanted to make a statement with our debut appearance.

An invitation to pause briefly while strolling through the halls and get a comprehensive overview of our portfolio for the industry. An idea we wanted to bring to life with our second floor and the view it offers of Hall 12.0.

PPC with a twist?

As first-time exhibitors, we knew that not every regular attendee would already be familiar with our name and brand. This was a challenge we were eager to take on. After all, our portfolio of solutions offers more than just answers to pressing questions in meter point and grid operations. Instead, the smart grid also serves as a gateway to the added value of the digital metering world for the housing industry and controllable prosumers. Topics related to solutions for controllable consumption devices under Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG), in conjunction with energy management systems and transparency in the heating sector, were high on the agenda for many visitors not only at E-World Energy & Water 2024 in February but also here in Frankfurt.

We were also able to exchange ideas with numerous contracting firms. Such discussions are, of course, the best opportunity to gather insights from the field—specifically, the experiences that installers are gaining “out there” during the smart meter rollout. We were happy to discuss all topics related to the meter cabinet—whether it was cabling options, installation experiences, the secure supply chain, or our network management solution.

Joining the EnBW Energy Community In addition to the trade show itself, which was the highlight, we were able to announce some other great news there. PPC is now an official member of EnBW Energiegemeinschaft e.V. EnBW Energiegemeinschaft e.V. supports tradespeople in successfully and collaboratively implementing the energy transition. It serves as a central point of contact for all trades businesses in the electrical, gas, and water sectors, as well as chimney sweep companies, energy consultants, architectural firms, engineering firms, grid operators, utility companies, manufacturers, wholesalers, and educational institutions. We are thrilled to be part of this community! Our membership was publicly announced at Light+Building. Following that, Thomas Rudolph and Arian Badamdeh, in collaboration with our Head of Sales, Thomas Wunsch, filmed a segment on smart meter gateways and the digital transformation of the energy transition. In the video, we were able to demonstrate what data an end customer can view using the smart meter gateway and how this data can be utilized in a dynamic rate plan. We were very pleased with the turnout and the positive feedback. To be continued? Since it takes place every two years, the next Light + Building won’t be here until March 2026. That’s a period during which a lot can and will change in the digital infrastructure. With our conclusion, we’ve sought to summarize our initial impressions. But one thing already seems certain: when it comes to the now-critical topics—such as controllable loads, prosumer integration, digital heating networks, and more—many developments are just getting started. It’s safe to say, then, that these topics will continue to gain importance in the building sector—and that in 2026, PPC will once again have many new developments to present and results to celebrate.
